Essential takeaways:

  • A functional lifestyle is the basis for creating optimal health.

  • Using the laws of nature and principles of science, we can understand and reconnect with function. This does not have to be complicated - in fact, it is a return to simplicity.

  • Living a functional lifestyle requires commitment to supporting your body's needs and an environment conducive to success.

  • Using the Fieldlab method, you can observe and craft your functional lifestyle based on individual requirements in order to create optimal health.

Helping you live a functional lifestyle is the foundation of everything we do at Fieldlab.

But, what does that mean? What does a functional lifestyle look like?

A functional lifestyle is one in which an individual actively lives in alignment with the needs of their body as dictated by the laws of nature and principles of science. This defines their decision making and the way they interact with and shape their environment.

You may have noticed we take this very seriously and for good reason - it’s how we live our lives and what has helped us create health.

      Let’s go deeper.

At the core, function refers to the biological systems and processes that define our existence - they are the foundation of who we are and how we operate at every level. With every action or stimulus, there is a subsequent reaction governed by nature and explained by science - this is significantly amplified in the human body as one action simultaneously triggers thousands of responses. Ultimately, it is our actions and environment that dictate whether our biological functions create health or foster disfunction - the latter is what we try to avoid at all costs.

In order to cultivate optimal health, we must create a life centered around healthy biological function - i.e. a functional lifestyle. The actions we take must align with the needs of our body and avoid the natural reactions and stressors that create disfunction. The environment we operate in must be conducive to optimal function and support effective recovery - every attempt to mitigate or eliminate harmful stimulus must be taken. We must create an ecosystem for function so that we can reach optimal health and do all things well, all the time and feel our best while doing them.

At Fieldlab, we do this by observing the following areas of our life — nourish, move, reflect, defend. A Functional lifestyle is the result of properly connecting to all of them.

While this may seem complicated and challenging, it is anything but. In fact, a functional lifestyle represents a return to simplicity - a reconnection with the earth and what makes us human. It requires rejection of both the status quo and cultural norms that have created mass disfunction and chronic disease. It requires development of meaningful relationships and the sharing of knowledge with those around you - that is what Fieldlab is all about.

      See you in the field.
